PANDEMIC BLESSINGS

Food insecurity is at epic portions. There has been a 42% increase in food insecurity rates in southwestern Pennsylvania. Many individuals and families are struggling to eat. There are long lines for food at the Food Bank and other entities that are addressing the need. Cars are often lined up at distribution points hours before the distribution begins.

CADAprograms is located in a “Food Desert.” There is very little access to transportation. CADAprograms has addressed the need in an innovative way. We lovingly prepare from scratch meals in our commercial kitchen. Meals are distributed based upon family size following the PA State and National guidelines established by the Child and Adult Care Feeding Program (CACFP).

The meals are “Pick Up & Go” on specifically designated days. Please register with the program prior to coming to pick up food. We have prepared over 1,000 meals in a month.

The “Pick Up & Go” concept encourages the parents to share how they are feeling. Many are concerned about “What’s going to happen next?” or “When will the children be returning to school?” All are concerned about the anxiety they are experiencing. Some just need to sit and talk. We are the safe haven for the community.
